Francesco Orsi
Francesco Orsi is a leading philosopher in the area of value theory and the history of ethics. He is the author of two books (Value Theory, 2015, Bloomsbury) (The Guise of the Good: A Philosophical History, 2023, Routledge) and numerous articles in the most important philosophy journals. He has been principal investigator in several research projects. His work has covered, in particular, meta-ethics (roughly: are ethical judgments objective or subjective?), value analysis (how to best understand notions like good, bad, well-being, etc.), and the history of ethics. His recent book The Guise of the Good: A Philosophical History (Routledge 2023) is the first comprehensive historical treatment of the idea that we can only desire what seems good to us. He also publishes on the ethics and philosophy of sexuality. Orsi supervises students on any topic closely or remotely related to ethics: the nature of value, the ethics of cybersex, happiness, autonomy, animal rights, and more. Currently supervising two PhD theses on naturalism in ethics and property rights.
