Peter Avo Andrekson
Prof. Peter A. Andrekson received his PhD from Chalmers University in 1988 after which he spent 3 years with AT&T Bell Laboratories, N.J., USA (1989-1992). He spent the summers of 1993 and 1995 at Osaka University and worked full time in the USA during 2000-2004 (Cenix Inc. and Lehigh University). Meanwhile he became full professor at Chalmers University in 2001. More than 20 PhDs students successfully defended their thesis under his guidance. The research area is several aspects of optical fiber communications, including e.g. optical amplifiers, advanced modulation formats, ultrahigh bit-rate transmission, etc. Andrekson has published over 500 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers including 3 book chapters, and more than 100 invited papers of which 5 were tutorials on different topics at the premiere conferences: Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) and European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC). This is the most important European conference on this topic and attracts 5000 people every year. Holder of an ERC Advanced Grant (2012-2017), 2.5 M€ Wallenberg Scholar (2012-2023), 1.8 M€ Distinguished Professor, Swedish research council (2016-2025), 5 M€ Has during the past 20 years attracted external funding (as PI or co-PI) of approximately 300 MSEK (approx. 30 M€) Recipient of the Gustav Dalen gold medal 2024.
