Piret Ehin
Piret Ehin is Professor of Comparative Politics and Deputy Head for Research at the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies at the University of Tartu (Estonia). She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Arizona (2002). Her main research interests include democracy, elections and voting behavior, legitimacy and political support, European integration and Europeanization. More recently, she has also focused on remote internet voting, trust in technology and public perceptions of Big Tech companies. Her work has appeared in the European Journal of Political Research, Journal of Common Market Studies, Cooperation and Conflict, Politics, Government Information Quarterly, Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties, and the Journal of Baltic Studies, among other journals. She has carried out applied research for the European Parliament, the Estonian Parliament, Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Office of Estonia, is member of Board of the Open Estonia Foundation, and collaborates with a number of think tanks. She has supervised over 50 MA theses, three doctoral dissertations and several post-doctoral projects. She has extensive experience in leading and implementing large-scale research and capacity-building projects, including Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects. Since 2023, she has been leading a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence focusing on democracy in the European Union. Piret is the representative of the University of Tartu in the European Consortium for Political Research and in the Baltic Geopolitics Network led by the University of Cambridge. She was a Short-Term Research Fellow at Stanford University in spring 2022, and serves as a coordinator of Stanford-Tartu internship and academic exchange programs at the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies, University of Tartu. Since 2023, Piret has served as a Member of the Committee awarding the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science.
