Steven Willemsen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical
Aesthetics in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He is author of 'Impossible Puzzle Films: A
Cognitive Approach to Contemporary Complex Films' (Edinburgh University Press, 2017 - with
Dr. Miklós Kiss), and has been a Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the University of
Groningen, and Visiting Research Scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His
research interests lie in cognitive film theory, narrative studies, and empirical and cognitive
approaches to aesthetics.
