Apart from translation activities, I have also curated an exhibition on the Finnish "national epic", The Kalevala, in the Prague Main City Library (Central Library of the Capital City of Prague) in Spring 1999. I have promoted Finnish literature at book fairs and literary festivals in Prague, Czech Republic, Vilenica, Slovenia, Helsinki and Turku, Finland, and Turin, Italy (organizing presentations of books, literary seminars, meetings & interviews with authors, etc.)
Numerous translations of fiction and non-fiction (poetry, prose, essays, scholarly work) from Finnish, English and Italian (cooperation on translations from Swedish and German) into Czech; translation (in cooperation with other translators) of fiction and non-fiction from Czech to Finnish and Italian (Prague, Czech Republic; Turku, Finland; Turin & Florence, Italy); designing programmes for the Czech Radio (Prague, Czech Republic).

Viola Parente-Čapková (in the Research Portal of the University of Turku, Viola Capkova/Čapková) is a Senior lecturer, Researcher and Docent / Adjunct Professor of Finnish literature at the University of Turku, Finland, and a Docent of Theory of literature at Charles University, Prague. Her major research interests are fin de siècle Finnish literature, namely decadence in European perspective, fin de siècle women’s writing in Europe with a focus on Finland, transnational cultural and literary networks and transnational reception of women’s writing, theoretical issues in literary history, feminist literary theory, postcolonial theory, intermediality and digital humanities. She is currently leading two research projects: Texts on the Move: Reception of Women’s Writing in Finland and Russia 1840-2020 (funded by the Emil Aaltonen Foundation), and Fiction as a Promoter of the Finnish Language among Adults with Im/migrant Background (funded by the KONE Foundation). She worked in the HERA funded project Travelling TexTs 1790–1914: Transnational Reception of Women’s Writing at the Fringes of Europe.

Viola Parente-Čapková has an extensive teaching experience, having worked as a Senior Lecturer in Finnish literature at Charles University, Prague, for 7 years, and taught Finnish literature in various capacities at the University of Turku, University of Helsinki and University of Florence, and, as a visiting teacher and scholar, at the University of Cologne, University of Izhevsk, Masaryk University and Comenius University. She has supervised B. A. and M.A. theses and doctoral dissertations as well as acted as opponent to doctoral and habilitation dissertations in various universities in Finland, Czech Republic, Italy and Slovenia.
