Eesti Maaülikooli mükoloogiline kogu hõlmab kolme alamkogu: mükoloogiline herbaarium [TAAM], E. Leppiku seente ja taimehaiguste herbaarium [EAA] ja seente eluskultuuride kollektsioon [TFC], olles suurim seenekogu Eestis. Seente kogus [TAAM] on ca 189 000 kuivatatud viljakehade eksemplari, neist umbes 7 750 on peamiselt vahetuse teel teistest maadest saadud eksikaadid (võrdluskogud) ja umbes 9000 eksemplari, mis on deponeeritud Tartu ülikoolist. Süstemaatiliselt kuuluvuselt on lõviosa kandseeni (nn lehik- ja mittelehikseened, puguseened), järgnevad kottseened (eriti Helotiales, Pezizales, Hypocreales). Oluline on Eestist pärit eksemplaride hulk. Nn. makroseente osas on see üks olulisemaid Euraasia põhjaosa seenestiku varamuid, Siberi ja Venemaa Kaug-Ida mittelehikseente kõige täielikum kollektsioon, lisaks on tähelepanuväärne Kesk-Aasia ja Kaukasuse ekspeditsioonidelt kogutu. Esindatud on Fennoskandia, Põhja-Ameerika (sh Gröönimaa), Aafrika, Lõuna-Aasia, Austraalia. Teadusele uutena kirjeldatud liikide holotüüpe on 345, isotüüpe on 87, paratüüpe 113. Tüüpidest suurem osa on eesti mükoloogide - Ain Raitviir, Erast Parmasto, Kuulo Kalamees - kirjeldatud. Kogu materjali alusel on avaldatud üle 700 teadustöö. Neist olulisemad eesti autoritelt on 20 köidet seeriast “Scripta Mycologica”, kolm vihikut Eesti seente levikuatlast. Välja on antud eksikaatkogud – E. Parmasto Mycotheca Estonica 1–3 (1957–1961) ja E. Parmasto Corticiaceae USSR 1–3 (1966–1969). Kogus talletatu alusel koostati Eestis seadusega kaitstavate seente (2004) ja Eesti Punase raamatu (1998, 2008) seente nimestikud. Viimasel viiel aastal on oluliselt kasvanud laenatud materjali põhjal avaldatud publikatsioonide hulk, peamiselt seente molekulaarsest fülogeneesist. Ajalooline seente ja taimehaiguste herbaarium ehk Elmar Leppiku kollektsioon [EAA] hõlmab eelkõige parasiitseid mikroseeni ja kultuurtaimedel kasvavaid seeneliike. Kollektsioonis on ca 23 800 eksemplari, neist Eestist üle 8000 eksemplari (ca 4500 E. Leppiku kogutud). Ostude ja vahetuse teel täiendati kogu eksikaatide ja võrdluseksemplaridega mitmetest Euroopa maadest, määrajateks J.A. Bäumler, E. Kari, A. Kirulis, K. Linkola, F. Petrak, J. Smarods, K. Starcs jt. Nõukogude Liidu perioodil täiendati kollektsiooni Eestist kogutud materjaliga K. Kivi, P. Põldmaa, A.-L. Sõmermaa jt poolt. EAA kogu määratud seeneeksemplarid, kokku ca 23 500 on täielikult andmebaasistatud. Herbaariumi materjali alusel on avaldatud sadakond teadustööd ja ligi 300 taimekaitset populariseerivat brošüüri (peamiselt kuni 1943. aastani). Välja on antud eksikaatkogud: A. Käsebieri - Taimehaiguste kogu Eestis I (1924) ja E. Leppiku - Fungi Estonici Exsiccati I–VI (1931–1942). Kogu on tähtis Eesti seenestiku uurimisel, sisaldades esimeste Eesti professionaalsete mükoloogide uurimistöö tõendeksemplare. Isolaatide koguarv kollektsioonis on 1424. Alates aastast 2010. on kollektsiooni lisandunud peamiselt endofüütseid seeni (kokku ca 165 tüve). Eluskultuure hoitakse kahes korduses jahekappides ning ümberkülvid uuele söötmele toimuvad iga 12-18 kuu järel.
The collection of fungi of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, the largest in Estonia, comprises 3 subcollections with separate international acronyms: TAAM - mycological collection, EAA - E. Leppik fungal collection and TFC - collection of fungal living cultures. TAAM was founded in 1950 at the Institute of Zoology and Botany (IZB) of the Estonian Academy of Sciences where the distribution, taxonomy and phylogeny of mainly pore and gill fungi, gasteromycetes and discomycetes was being studied. For this purpose herbarium specimens were collected in Estonia. Also, more than 150 collecting trips were organized to Siberia, and to former Soviet Union's Far East, Central Asia, the Caucasus, as well as its European part were organized from 1956. The IZB was joined to the Estonian Agricultural University in 1997. Later (2005) it was split between different departments of the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (IAES) of the newly renamed Estonian University of Life Sciences. The total number of the specimens in TAAM is about 189,000, including 7,750 specimens of exsiccata obtained mainly via exchange and nearly 9000 specimens from Tartu University are deposited here. The fungarium is one of the most important collections of macromycetes of the northern part of Eurasia, and the most complete collection of Aphyllophoraceous fungi of Siberia and the Russian Far East. Expeditions have been made to other European countries, North America (incl. Greenland), Africa, Southern Asia and Australia. There are 346 holotype specimens, 87 isotypes and 113 paratypes; most of which are collected and described by the mycologists of the IZB (A. Raitviir, E. Parmasto and K. Kalamees). Lending and exchange of specimens with some 20 foreign institutions and universities take place annually. We have some foreign visitors every year. Mycotheca Estonica by E. Parmasto, Fasc. 1-3 (1957-1961) and Corticiaceae USSR by E. Parmasto, Fasc. 1-3 (1966-1969) have been issued. More than 700 mycological studies based on TAAM collections have been published. The mycologists of IZB / IAES have completed 20 volumes of the series “Scripta Mycologica” and three fascicles of the distribution maps of Estonian fungi. Proposals have been made to include fungi to the the official list of protected species (drawn up in 2004) and compilation of the Estonian Red Data Lists of fungi (1998, 2008). Mycological collection (EAA) comprises first and foremost parasitic microfungi and species growing on cultivated plants, 23 800 in total. Herbarium was established at the laboratory of plant diseases of Tartu University in 1922 and F. Bucholtz, A. Käsebier and professor E. Leppik collected herbarium material from all over Estonia (over 8000 specimens). The collection was supplemented, by way of acquisitions and donations from several European countries, with exsiccates and specimens for comparison determined by J.A. Bäumler, E. Kari, A. Kirulis, K. Linkola, F. Petrak, J Smarods, K. Stares and others. In the last half-century fungi have been gathered from Estonia by K. Kivi, P. Põldmaa, A.-L. Sõmermaa and others. At present ca 23,500 items have been included in the joint database of the Estonian fungal collections (http://elurikkus.ut.ee/index.php?lang=est). About 100 research papers and almost 300 booklets on plant protection have been completed on the basis of this herbarium material (mainly up to 1943). The fungal pure culture collection [TFC] was founded in 1970 at the former Institute of Zoology and Botany. The collection is registered at the World Federation of Culture Collections. Besides the maintenance of cultures, the collection has served as a basis for research for scientists as well for students. Presently the collection contains 1424 fungal strains representing ca 400 fungal species from almost the whole world. Remarkle are isolates of genera Phellinus and Hymenochaete. The cultures are mostly preserved in two replicas in tubes on appropriate malt, potato-dextrose or corn-meal agar slants and are transferred every 12 to 16 months. Ordinary refrigerators are mostly used for preserving cultures; isolates from warmer or tropic areas are maintained in room conditions. The collection has received isolates from scientists or students of the former Institute of Zoology and Botany (later from scientists of the University of Life Sciences), but numerous cultures have been obtained from scientists or institutions of other countries.

Alates 2000. aastast on kollektsioon maailma kultuurikollektsioonide föderatsiooni World Federation for Culture Collection (WFCC) liige akronüümiga TFC - Tartu Fungal Collection.

Hoidlate külastus/materjali kasutus kokkuleppel kogu kuraatoriga. Materjali laenutamine ja vahetus toimub tunnustatud teadusasutustega ja seenekogudega üldistel alustel (põhiliselt jälgitakse Kew Kuningliku Botaanikaaia herbaariumis kehtestatud korda, mida on eeskujuks võtnud paljud Euroopa ja USA herbaariumid). Keskmiselt vahetatakse aastas materjali 20 koguga.
Visitors are introduced by curator about suitable working routines in fungal collection. Principally the loan policy of the Kew Royal Botanical Garden Herbarium is followed. The average annual material exchange is with 20 institutions.
Materjali kasutus eelneval kokkuleppel kogu kuraatoriga. Laenu taotluse allkirjastab laenava asutuse teaduskogu kuraator. Arvestades kasvavaid postikulusid võidakse piirata saadetava materjali hulka. Laenatud materjali kasutus tuleb dokumenteerida. Tagastatud materjal tuleb varustada loetavate etikettidega, millel on andmed uurija, kasutusaja, uurimisasutuse ja liigimäärangu koht (det., rev., conf., vid.) või uuringu valdkonna kohta (molekulaarse fülogeneesi uuringud...). Samuti tuleb märkida eksemplarilt eemaldatud fragmendid (eosed SEM või valgusmikroskoopilisteks uuringuteks; lehe fragmendid DNA isoleerimiseks; apoteetsium anatoomilisteks uuringuteks jne). Laenu andnud organisatsioon (TAAM) tuleb ära märkida kõigis publikatsioonides, mis on seotud laenatud materjali kasutamisega. Seenekogu on tänulik vastavate publikatsioonide paber- või digikoopiate eest.
• Access for scientists with prior notice to the curator. • Loans are made to recognized scientific institutions involved in botanical or mycological research. • The loan request should be made by a formal letter to the curator responsible. • The loan request should contain the name of the researcher and the thematic scope of the research project. Use of specimens in projects of a commercial nature requires separate agreement. • For type material requested, data on collector, collecting date, number, and locality should be provided. • Should the planned research include destructive methods (including DNA extraction), special permission by curatorial staff is necessary. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. • The receiving institution is expected to accept responsibility for proper handling (e.g protection of specimen from insect and other damage) and the safe return of the specimens. Loan material must not be removed from the institution to which they are on loan. • Loans are normally granted for 3 months up to 1 year. Extension may be granted. • Considering increasing postal costs, restrictions may apply on the amount of sent material. • The use of loan material should be documented. Annotation labels, written legibly in permanent ink or typed and preferably of small size, must be attached to each collection returned. Such labels should give the name of the researcher, the date/ period of the investigation, the institution where the research was conducted, and the determination status (det., rev., conf., vid.) or scope of research (e.g., molecular phylogenetic study of ...). Information about the removal of fragments is appreciated (e.g., pollen/spores removed for SEM or light microscopy; leaf fragment removed for DNA isolation; apothecium removed for anatomical study etc). • The lending institution (TAAM) must be acknowledged appropriately in any publications or other materials that present results derived from use of the loaned specimens. A paper or digital copy of any publications resulting from study of loan material would be appreciated.
Andmeid kasutatakse teadustöös Eesti (Tartu ülikool, Eesti Maaülikool) ja rahvusvaheliselt väljalaenudena (vt koguga seotud publikatsioone), samuti Eesti ülikoolide üliõpilaste/kraadiõppurite poolt õppe- ja teadustöös. Eksemplaride põhjal on koostatud Eesti seente leviku kokkuvõtteid ja antud Keskkonnaministeeriumile infot seente looduskaitse alla võtmiseks (vt koguga seotud publikatsioonid), koostatud viimane Eesti ohustatud seente punane nimestik (https://elurikkus.ut.ee/prmt.php?lang=est). Kogusse talletatud eksemplaride andmebaasistamisel PlutoFi kaudu täieneb pidevalt Eesti Liikide Registri seente osa ning edastatakse info GBIF andmestikku.
TAAM specimens are used by researchers in Estonia (University of Tartu, Estonian University of Life Sciences) and world-wide (check list of publications) and by students (bachelor, master and Ph.D.) of Estonian universities. Preserved specimens are important for information about distribution of fungi in Estonia and Eurasia. Nature protected species are vouchered in our collection, the Estonian Red List of fungi (http://elurikkus.ut.ee/prmt.php?lang=eng) is based on TAAM specimens. The list of the taxa found in Estonia is supplemented by every new fungal taxon databased in PlutoF, and is available in GBIF.
The former acronym of fungal collection was until 2009 TAA while it was formally an integral part of the (botanical) herbarium TAA. Actually it has always been an independent collection. In 2010 collection received acronym TAAM.
